Commissioned by the Arts Council of Ireland and the SF Foundation, the artists Ryan Alexiev, Hank Willis Thomas and Jim Ricks have launched the project In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth) this summer at the Galway Arts Festival in Ireland, July 11-24, 2011.

In Search of the Truth is an installation comprised of an inflatable, touring "Truth Booth" iconically shaped like a giant cartoon speech bubble with the word "TRUTH" boldly printed on the side. The interior acts much like a photo booth, but serves to compile video responses (up to 2 minutes) from the public. Once seated inside, participants will be invited to consider "What is Truth?" and then complete the statement "The truth is . . ." Once finished, their recording will be uploaded to a dedicated website.

After the festival, the booth will tour the rest of Ireland, visiting well-known arts festivals, city locations, rural fairs, and the odd stop in between. As such, it will capture the diversity of viewpoints and of people in Ireland at a time of change and uncertainty. To expand and engage with audiences, the movements of the Truth Booth and sample responses will be tracked via a website insearchofthetruth.net.

Once the tour of Ireland is completed, the artists intend to take the experiences in Ireland to an international scale. Continuing their "journey to find the truth," the Truth Booth will tour countries around the world, collecting a vast and diverse range of video responses along the way. Ultimately, the project will culminate in a large scale video mosaic and documentary.

More info is at the project's dedicated website: insearchofthetruth.net and on Facebook
